NFL Week 12, Part 2: Post-Turkey Hangover for Contenders?

DK Metcalf and the Seahawks will look to move to 8-3 with a win in Philadelphia on Monday night.

Okay, so a 2-0 Thanksgiving gets me within a game of .500 after a rough start. Now, a chance to jump over the breakeven mark with a big Sunday. Will some contenders run afoul of a Thanksgiving hangover? Let’s look at a few games:

Thursday:     2-0

Season:          7-8 (46.7%)

Miami at New York Jets (buying to +7 at -120)

C’mon, Jets! Is this the day? If ever the stars were going to align for this bottom-feeding franchise, this might be the day. Tua is banged up, which means yet another reunion tour game for FitzMagic. But the Dolphins were brought back to earth last week in Denver, and the Jets showed some unusual moxie in nearly rallying late against the Chargers. Sam Darnold is back, which has got to be worth something. I know everyone thinks the Jets will go 0-16, and it’s definitely possible. But in fairness, I thought the Dolphins were headed down that path last year, and finished 5-11. This should be close regardless. Pick: Jets.

Seattle (-5.5) at Philadelphia

Oh, the Eagles. And oh, the NFC Least. What to do with this division? A Philly upset win would plant them back in first place by their lonesome, but the injuries keep piling up, with Lane Johnson the latest casualty. The Seahawks broke their mini rut with last Thursday’s win over Arizona and have had some extra time to rest up for this long trip. The last time the Seahawks flew to Philly for a Monday Night Football game, Matt Hasselbeck’s Super Bowl-bound Hawks ripped the defending NFC champion Eagles to shreds, 42-0. I’m not quite expecting that, but I like the Seahawks to keep pace in the NFC West, which of course is the polar opposite of the NFC Least. Pick: Seahawks.
